About the event
Class begins with three gongs of the singing bowl, a reminder of the three treasures: the body, the breath, and the mind. We center ourselves to activate the relaxation response, the organs, and the meridians. From here, gentle movements warm up the body for our main practice of The Eight Brocades of Silk, a popular medical qigong sequence, which accesses and circulates fresh energy and pumps the lymphatic system, which works to expel toxins from the body.
Next, hand and and wrist movements, especially targeting the areas where stuck energy can cause arthritic tenderness, and spontaneous qigong help to move any stuck energy left in the body. Classes will include self-applied massage, various tapping, stroking, and pressing, to improve circulation as well as healing visualization exercises. Short periods of meditation throughout the class help to deepen the relaxed stated needed to activate the immune system for healing and an overall sense of well being.
