About the event

The public is invited to a visioning session for the redevelopment of the South Amherst School on Wednesday June 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Munson Memorial Library, 1046 South East Street.

The Town of Amherst, in partnership with Joy Squared Architects, is exploring possible redevelopment options for the South Amherst School at 1001 South East Street.

The Greek Revival building dates to the late 19th century with an annex added in the 1950’s. It has been vacant since 2018 and sits on three acres of land.

This process will incorporate community input, which will be combined with zoning considerations, existing physical features, and documented housing needs to develop three distinct concepts.

These concepts will be presented to Town stakeholders for feedback and prioritization, guiding more formal development efforts in the future. At this visioning session event, Joy Squared will gather community input and ideas to launch the process.
